Red, 1999

Red, 1999
Acrylic & Canvas
Painted from the vantage point of a teen, this painting shows the struggle that is felt when trying to make sense of the world.
Background: Hard lines define the relationship between the red and yellow boxes (societal rules) and the textured space between (reality and hope for the future). This is symbolic of the teenage view that the rules and routines are quite disconnected from the feverish flow of real life.
Foreground: The huddled figure is the teen's reaction to the contrast... often, it just seems too much.
